Councilman David G. Greenfield attended last week’s 70th Precinct Community Council meeting to formally congratulate and honor NYPD Inspector Eric Rodriguez on his recent promotion to full Inspector. In recognition of his commitment to the community and his years of service to the people of New York City, Councilman Greenfield presented Inspector Rodriguez with an official New York City Council proclamation and thanked him for his tremendous work since taking command of the 70th Precinct two years ago.

“It was a pleasure to personally congratulate Inspector Eric Rodriguez on his well-deserved promotion and to thank him for his great efforts on behalf of local residents. This is someone who has dedicated his life and career to keeping New Yorkers safe and improving the quality of life in all of the neighborhoods served by the 70th Precinct. We truly are fortunate to have devoted people like Inspector Rodriguez protecting our community,” said Councilman Greenfield.

At the meeting last Wednesday, Councilman Greenfield praised Inspector Rodriguez’s efforts to reach out to the many different groups, community leaders and elected officials from the neighborhoods patrolled by the 70th Precinct. He also noted Inspector Rodriguez’s great efforts before, during and after Hurricane Sandy to keep residents informed through countless e-mail updates the precinct sent to the public. Finally, Councilman Greenfield commended Inspector Rodriguez for overseeing a large drop in crime since he took command of the 70th Precinct. This includes a 14 percent decline overall in the past two years, along with a 44 percent decline in felony assaults and auto thefts, a 15 percent decrease in robberies and a 2 percent decline in grand larcenies.

Councilman Greenfield also thanked Inspector Rodriguez for his great response to problems and concerns throughout the community in recent months, including issues with suspicious individuals and loitering along Foster Avenue, the precinct’s response to the serial killer that terrorized storeowners last summer and the rash of car break-ins that have plagued Midwood and surrounding neighborhoods recently.

The proclamation presented to Inspector Rodriguez also details his long and active career with the NYPD, which has included serving as commanding officer of Transit District 3 in Manhattan, executive officer of the 9th Precinct in the East Village, and stints with the Narcotics Division and Technical Assistance Response Unit before serving as commanding officer of Bay Ridge’s 68th Precinct until his transfer to the 70th Precinct in 2011.

“The impact Inspector Rodriguez has already made on our community in a short amount of time shows that the people of Flatbush and the surrounding areas are in great hands. With that in mind, it was an honor to present Inspector Rodriguez with a proclamation in recognition of his promotion and his hard work each day to keep the public safe,” concluded Councilman Greenfield.

The proclamation was also signed by Council Members Jumaane Williams, Michael Nelson and Mathieu Eugene, who all represent neighborhoods served by the 70th Precinct.
