The daily Yated Neeman points out the cooperation between Bayit Yehudi and Yesh Atid impacts other areas beyond ongoing coalition talks, pointing to a bill presented in Knesset by MK (Yesh Atid) Aliza Lavie and MK (Bayit HaYehudi) Shuli Moalem-Refaeli demanding at least four spots for women to serve on the committee that appoints dayanim. The MKs feel that four positions must be locked in for women as there is a need to significantly increase the influence of women in the rabbinical court system in Israel.
Yated quotes “rabbinical sources”, who feel the MKs have basically opted to join the growing anti-religious sentiment in Israel, lending a hand to the Reform and others seeking to destroy frum Yiddishkheit. They feel the MKs are seeking to “delegitimize” the rabbinical court system, which today operates within the confines of Halacha. They are operating under the guise of alleged discrimination against women in the religious court system, the rabbonim are quoted as saying.
The report adds that state law empowers the rabbinical court system with exclusivity over marriage and divorce, which Baruch Hashem are conducted within the confines of Halacha. They feel these efforts are representative of those seeking to weaken the Halachic influence of the Rabbinate the court system, which has long been an anathema for them. “These elements are continuing efforts to do everything within their power to stop this from remaining under exclusive Halachic control”.
“While on the surface it appears the MKs are genuinely seeking to improve the status of women in the rabbinical court system, in actuality it is another effort to undermine the system and to empower the system to dictate to the dayanim how they must act in their decision-making process of realize they will not be selected as a dayan.”
The report concludes that there is not a requirement to have female representation on the committee which selects dayanim, certainly not four.

The inherent problem of having an official government religion, in most countries, is that the people running the government are rarely all that religious. If you to have rabbinical courts operating according to halacha, by definition they need to be independent of the government (as they are in the United States, or in Israel by groups such as the Eidis hareidis).
Perhaps with the current crisis of conscription, the frum people in Eretz Yisrael will realize they are in fact a minority, and will focus on protecting their rights as a minority rather than supporting institution of the central government which in the final analysis are under the control of the hiloni majority.
So two frum MKs are ‘seeking to destroy frum Yiddishkheit’? Takah mamesh?
That charedim don’t want frum women on the commitee is understandable as they would likely be D”L women and vote with the D”L men, not with the charedim. But the ease with which the charedi press is willing to spill their blood in public just to achieve a political goal is nothing short of revolting.

Interesting – now Yated knows what people are thinking. Have they been blessed with the power to know one’s innermost thoughts? We say about HKB”H “lifanecha g’luyim kol hanistarim”. Sounds like Yated thinks they have an inside scoop on this too…

Really now… a press article
The problem is that YWN only scans the frum press for juice. Imagine what the viewers would glean if they scanned say, Makor Rishon?

If it smells like a fish, tastes like a fish, and looks like a fish,…it’s a pickle?

Bayit Yehudi has made drafting the Chareidim and conquering every last ministry that Shas/UTJ control its primary issues, and you’re complaining that the Chareidi press is complaining? Seriously?

Its only a matter of time that a list of ideas will be demanded by those who have no idea what judaism is, so why not have an arap on said committee to have influance on the rabbinical court, and why not take some ideas from their religeon, you might be laughing but it won’t take long.
Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. When one goes through these courts and is subject to them, without being allowed to bring in independent witnesses to the proceedings, without being allowed to record the proceedings, without any form of independent review or ombudsman, then one sees first hand the corruption that goes on daily. A case I was involved in, one of the 3 judges volunteered to the husband in the case “I have known your father since we were boys”. That should have disqualified the judge, but no, and to be sure, the stenographer “forgot” to include that in the court record. So just aren’t the parties allowed to record the proceedings????
