Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad told The Sunday Times that while his country has yet to respond, he plans to retaliate against Israel for attacking a weapons convoy in his country last month. Assad explained that he will act in the proper time of his choosing, stating “retaliation does not mean missile for missile or bullet for bullet. Our own way does not have to be announced”.

The Syrian leader would not respond to questions pertaining to reports that he was moving large stockpiles of chemical weapons. He denied reports that Hizbullah and Russian forces arrived in his country to assist his regime in the ongoing civil war.

“We are a country of 23 million people with a strong national army and police force. We are in no need of foreign fighters to defend our country,” Assad added.
