Kiryat Arba Chief Rabbi Dov Lior Shlita, who is sitting shiva for a brother, spoke with Bayit Yehudi MK Uri Ariel who made a shiva visit. Rav Lior is quoted as expressing support for the way party leader Naftali Bennett is conducting coalition negotiations, adding that he relies upon his judgment towards maintaining the Jewish character of the state and towards protecting the interests of the yishuvim in Yehuda and Shomron.
Rav Lior then shifted to the chareidim, stressing the importance of maintaining a relationship with the tzibur, especially its rabbonim. He stated he is confident that the party will find a solution regarding the sharing the burden that will not only preserve limud Torah but strengthen it.”
Rav Lior is also quoted as instructing Ariel to seek control of the Ministry of Religious Services in coalition talks towards increasing the number of appointments of dati leumi rabbonim and dayanim.

Good move and easily obtainable.
In the D”L world rabbis do not give political “instructions”. That aside, of course they are going to get the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
This is the real reason the Dati-Leumi olam hates Shas – because they took the misradei datot and pnim which had traditionally belonged to the Mafdal. If Shas would be mevater on those two positions, or at least Datot, then they might make some progress on working together with Bennet.
#3 – According to reports, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (‘Pnim’) is not even on their list of desired portfolios. The two senior ministries they are seeking are Industry & Trade for Bennett and Housing for Ariel. In addition, harav Ben Dahan will probably be given Religious Affairs.
