Sasha Brandt Case Takes a Bizarre Turn

After the 29-year-old woman believed to be the lost daughter of the Brandt family of Ramat Gan agreed to give a DNA sample, the mother, who is the one who stated the woman is her daughter, refuses to give a DNA sample for comparative testing.

YWN-ISRAEL reported that Alexandria (Sasha) Brandt disappeared on her way home from school in 1994, when she was 10-years-old. Now, close to two decades later, after Mrs. Brandt saw the woman in Ashdod and stated she is certain this is her long lost daughter, the woman gave a DNA sample for testing towards a definitive determination in the case but Walla News is now reporting the mom will not agree to DNA testing.

Police explain a sister, Lilach Talya gave a saliva sample, but at best, the results will be only 50% certain since at best, she is a sibling, not a parent.

Now, for reasons that are not being explained, mom refuses to cooperate with DNA testing but adds that after she announced she is certain the woman is her missing daughter she described a mark on her daughter’s body, which the woman had as well. Channel 10 News adds that from what it has learned, mom has lost her faith in police, accusing Israel Police of not doing enough to find her daughter during the past 19 years, and therefore, she remains extremely apprehensive regarding a request for a DNA sample from police.

Genetic experts explain that with only a sample from a sibling, the best that can be achieved is 55% certainty but if sufficient points are compared from a parent’s DNA sample, a determination can be made with absolute certainty regarding the woman in question.

  1. Is this really something that should be in the press?
Especially in YWN as this doesn’t seem to have any special interest
from frum Jews. This is really a private matter.
