The case involving allegations of physical violence and law-breaking by members of the modesty patrol in Betar Illit continues. To date, Mayor Meir Rubinstein and a number of rabbonim were questioned in the case, and at least two arrests were made. While the mayor was released following question, police informed him that he would be called in again in the future as the investigation moves along.
The Rishon L’Tzion Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 9 Adar 5773 extended the remand of two suspects for an additional six days. Nissim Hadad and Ezra Devorah remain in custody in the case, suspected of using violence against off the derech youths in the community.
Police report that an undercover investigation that has been ongoing for over six months reveals the suspects used threats and violence against persons in the city they felt were not in compliance with tznius standards.

When will these KOOKS ever learn what true chinuch is?!?!?
Betar, like every municipality, should have it’s own police force with arrest powers to enforce local ordinances as well as a municipal Beis Din with enforcement powers. Both of course should be accountable to the voters and reviewed formally and regularly. Things like a tsinus patrol or a paid guard service are not enough.
