A man suspected of stealing a vehicle in Boro Park was arrested on Monday afternoon – thanks to the work of Boro Park Shmira.
Boro Park Shmira tell YWN that they received a phone call reporting a stolen Lincoln Continental on Monday morning, from 15 Avenue and 45 Street.
Shmira managed to track the vehicle after the suspect used a credit card found in the vehicle. The thief had gone on a massive shopping spree – purchasing many expensive items. At around 4:00PM, after approximately 15 Shmira members were canvassing the area where the credit card was being used, they located the vehicle parked – in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn. A female was witnessed exiting the store, and entering the parked vehicle.
Shmira members kept an eye on the vehicle while the NYPD’s 72nd Precinct was called.
Moments later, the male suspect exited the store carrying items he had just purchased with the stolen credit cards. At that moment, Police swarmed in and arrested both suspects at gunpoint.
The trunk of the vehicle was opened, and lots of expensive items were inside – all purchased with the stolen credit cards.
The NYPD’s 72 Precinct Commanding officer were thankful for the incredible assistance of Shmira, which directly enabled police to make the arrest. A group photo was take with Shmira and the NYPD outside the 72 Precinct – thanking the volunteers.
YWN has learned that the male suspect has an extensive criminal history.
