Israel’s Eldan Car Rental Company is going to be the nation’s first to offer clients an electric car option, the Renault Fluence ZE. The rate for a week rental will be 250 NIS daily, as opposed to 300 NIS per day. Yediot Achronot points out this will make Eldan the first car rental company in the world offering an electric vehicle.
The price is about 25% higher than a comparable car with a gasoline engine, but then again, no need to gas up. In addition, one returning the rental will not be responsible for having a fully charged battery, another plus. There will however be an additional charge of 2 NIS per kilometer for every kilometer of 100km (60 miles) driven daily.
Eldan adds that there will also be long-term rental and leasing options for persons interested in electric vehicles with different payment options regarding the rental company and Better Place, which operates the environmentally friendly car servicing system.

And what happens when you run out of a charge on a hostile road
Unlike the United States which has more carbon-based resources (including oil) than we know what to do with, Israel is seriously short and has a strong reason to move towards greater use of electric cars. What in the USA is a toy for rich green yuppies is actually critical for Israel.

The weekly rate works out to 50 sheekel less per day than the daily rate. That’s what it says. The way it says ig leads to easy confusion, but that’s the way it is with car rental contracts — the weekly rate is given as a less expensive daily rate for those who rent 7 or more days.
200 NIS FOR 100 KILOMETER THIS IS PRETTY EXPENSIVES. If a car gets 9 kilometers to liter it will cost you about 90NIS per 100 kilometers versus 200. Plus where do you charge the batteries. I rent when I am in Eretz Yisrael and stay with friends so where do I plug in, A trip from Yerusalem to Bnei Brak and back is almost 100 kilometers
