MK Shamir: Some Things More Important than Diplomatic Relations With The US

Newly-elected MK (Likud/Beitenu) Yair Shamir told a media event that while Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and others have expressed support for the two-state solution, he does not advocate the plan and feels it is not a realistic possibility. He added the prime minister’s Bar Ilan Address in which he expressed acceptance for the establishment of Palestine was never accepted by Likud and that it never would be acceptable.

Shamir also spoke of the significance of diplomatic relations between the United States and Israel, as the topic has earned a prominent spot in the local media ahead of the March 20th first visit to Israel by US President Barak Obama. Shamir stated that while there is no doubt regarding the significance of the relationship between our countries, there are national interests that must supersede the US demands, including construction in yishuvim.

Shamir was addressing a forum of visiting officials of the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations.

MK Shamir is a son of the late Prime Minister Yitzchak Shamir.

The Jewish State has missed the voice and passion of Yitzhak Shamir for years, for he would Say It As it Was. It seems as if the passion of the father has been given over to the son.
Of course, we all know that Obama is not making a friendly, fact finding visit rather a “What’s in it for me (USA)?” mission to bring back to the Arabs some more ‘good will’ opportunities.
