Responding to reports that Bayit Yehudi wants control of the Knesset Finance Committee, persons close to MK (Yahadut Hatorah) Rav Moshe Gafne released a statement that if the chareidi party joins the coalition, Gafne will continue as committee chair as he served in the 18th Knesset. MK Uri Ariel, who is in line to become a cabinet minister if Bayit Yehudi joins the coalition is reported to have expressed his wish to take the control of the Finance Committee, willing to forgo being a cabinet minister for the appointment.
Kikar Shabbat reports that persons close to Gafne are confident that reports about Ariel seeking control of the Knesset Finance Committee are baseless. They stated that if Yahadut Hatorah joins the coalition, there is no doubt the committee will remain in Gafne’s hands, adding all of this depends on Gedolei Yisrael Shlita.
Persons close to Gafne add that unlike others who controlled the committee Gafne was not sectoral, but worked to assist all Israelis, particularly the lower income families. They add that if one were to ask the general public one would see that Gafne is popular as head of the committee and as such there is absolutely to replace him with someone else.

His party only got seven seats in the election, and will need all their “protectsia” to try to block conscription of yeshiva students. Likud can find others willing to support its leadership with a lower price.
