Some Jerusalem Residents Left without Power Erev Shabbos

Hundreds of residents of Jerusalem’s Makor Baruch neighborhood were left without power on erev Shabbos. Residents quickly realized it was not a blown fuse in their apartment and they immediately called the Israel Electric Company emergency number. Officials confirmed a local malfunction, telling residents power would most likely be resorted about two hours. In actuality, the blackout last significantly longer and many resident s ran to the nearby shuk, Machane Yehuda in seraph of challahs, not willing to gamble on the power being restored in time.

Residents on Techakmuni Street reported hearing a “boom” and then the lights went out. It appears a main fuse or transformer burned out and exploded. While technicians responded rather quickly, it took hours to repair the problem. Light did come back on shortly before candle lighting.

  1. Whoops. I am curious to know about the ethnicity of the “technicians.”

What is the halachah if the electricity of a neighborhood is knocked out on Shabbos and is restored a few hours later “shelo k’din” by Jewish technicians?

Does one merely, shrug one’s shoulders and conduct Shabbos as usual?

    Talmidei Chachimim please answer.
