YWN-ISRAEL begins with a correction. Earlier this week it was reported that an Iron Dome missile defense system was placed in Haifa. In actuality, that should have read Patriot missile defense battery.

There is now a Patriot battery in Haifa, and an Iron Dome system in the Galil, and in addition, there is also an Iron Dome near Tzfas.

While the IDF spokesman releases messages that the deployment of the systems is “routine”, most believe it is connected to growing concerns that chemical weapons in Syria may make their way to Hizbullah, and this reality may compel and Israeli military operation. Such an operation could result in the firing of missiles across Israel’s northern border.

In the larger picture, the United States has also deployed a Patriot battery on the Turkey-Syrian border as the situation in Syria continues to deteriorate.

YWN-ISRAEL also reported that some northern border communities are preparing bomb shelters, unwilling to wait until the last moment.
