Ramat Beit Shemesh Tenders Closed: Dozens of Non-Profits & Chareidi Developers Competing

The tenders for areas of Ramat Beit Shemesh closed on Sunday, 16 Shevat 5773. In Ramat Beit Shemesh Gimmel-2 tenders were advertised for 1,840 housing units. The construction in that area is planned to be in line with the needs of chareidi families, offering 3,4, and 5 room apartments, built in apartment buildings with fewer stories. There is ample area alongside the residential buildings for mosdos, as well as green areas for parks, the daily HaMevaser reports. A commercial center is also planned for the new neighborhood and infrastructure groundwork is already in progress.

Also included in the tenders is the Eyeglasses (משקפיים) neighborhood, given the name as a result of the planned construction, situated east of Ramat Beit Shemesh Aleph. In this area, exceptionally large apartments are planned along with one and two family private homes. This neighborhood will also include 270 rent control apartments. This neighborhood will include a total of 600 housing units built alongside a large business area offering employment opportunities for area residents.

Another tender was for Ramat Beit Shemesh Gimmel-3, which will include 350 extremely large apartments. The outcome of this tender was announced a number of weeks ago and most of the builders are affiliated with the chareidi and dati communities.

Chairman of the Beit Shemesh Planning Board Rabbi Moshe Muntag, who also serves as a member of the district planning board explains that in the wadi between Ramat Beit Shemesh Aleph and Ramat Beit Shemesh Gimmel, a very large park is planned to serve area residents. The “giant park” will span 80 duman (20 acres) and it will include the largest longest playground area in Israel today.

Speaking to HaMevaser, Muntag said “There are no words to describe the long uphill battle that I and Beit Shemesh Mayor Rav Abutbul had to reach this point. As a result of Siyata Dishmaya and the actions of Maranan Gedolei Hador Shlita we have reached this point. All the stumbling blocks have fallen and the project is becoming a reality. You must understand that 2,500 units are being constructed in Ramat Beit Shemesh Gimmel, some of which are already ready. To this we are adding 3,000 units which are in early stages. These are the encouraging numbers, which we hope to actualize during this term in office.

  1. The numbers are WRONG. Please read the 100+ page tender before publishing disinformation. There will be LESS than 50 rent control units as opposed to the 270 mentioned in this article and that’s only if anyone actually bid on it. Also, the land tender for Mishkafayim is for around 400 units as opposed to the 600 mentioned.
