WASHINGTON DC, June 6th, 2018 – North Jersey Jewish Business Alliance (NJJBA) members kicked off a day filled with advocacy by meeting with Senator Cory Booker who found time to sit down with the alliance between Committee Hearings and Senate floor votes, quipping that “This is Mishpacha” (family).

The Senator stressed that NJJBA members are doing noble work by employing so many. He quoted Maimonides who writes that securing a job for someone is the highest level of charity.
NJJBA members were updated on soon-to-be established “Opportunity Zones”. These are new business incentives in low-income neighborhoods that were created with Senator Cory Booker’s help.
Next up was a lively meeting with Senator Menendez’ senior staff at the Senate Hart Office Building. A rigorous conversation ensued on transportation, trade, and taxes. Members conveyed their appreciation to the Senator for being a tremendous advocate for the State of New Jersey and its Jewish citizens.
Around mid-day the alliance representatives headed to the Longworth House Office Building for lunch with members from NJ’s delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives. A frank conversation centered on challenges facing NJ’s businesses.

Congressman Leonard Lance (R-7) stressed his unwavering pro-business support and pro-Israel stance.
Congressman Tom MacArthur (R-3) spoke about his personal history as an entrepreneur who understands the tough challenges that businesses face. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (D-5) received a round of applause for his bi-partisan pro-business record. Congressman Bill Pascrell (D-9), a ranking Member of the Ways & Means Subcommittee on Trade, went into detail about trade issues that are presently being tackled by some of the NJBBA members.

The group was also privileged to meet Senior staff from Representatives Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-12), Donald Norcross (D-1), Chris Smith (R-4), and Frank Pallone (D-7).
The day culminated with a substantive meeting at the USTR offices between NJJBA members and Assistant US Trade Representative Gregory Walters who was accompanied by Deputy AUSTR for Eurasia and Middle East, Director of Trade Remedies and Competition at USTR and Director for Agriculture Affairs at USTR.

Joel Epstein, COO of Fabuwood Cabinetry said “meeting our Senators, Congressmen and their senior staff members, as well as officials at the US Trade Representatives, personally and discussing with them issues facing Fabuwood was exhilarating! I came back to NJ energized, knowing we have our representatives’ support in these challenging times. I felt that they all understood the importance of protecting manufacturing jobs”
Nathan Herzog, President of Royal Wine Corp., who served as NJJBA’s Mission Co-Chair, summarized their successful day in Washington. He remarked that “Seeing the high regard that the Alliance is treated with by the highest levels of government is a testament to the strong unified voice that the NJJBA created”.
Herzog added, “If you are not a member of the Alliance yet, this is the time for you to sign up to have us assist you at the local, state and federal levels of Government”.
According to Ari Stahl, VP of Gel Spice and Vice Chair of the NJJBA,“The Day of Advocacy in Washington, D.C. was a tremendous success”. He added, “We were able to discuss a wide array of issues concerning our businesses with the nation’s top decision-makers”.
