Speaking to Israel Radio on Thursday, 13 Shevat 5773, Deputy Finance Minister (Shas) Yitzchak Cohen stated that “Maran will not permit anyone to compromise the status of Bnei Yeshivot” in response to questions surrounding the new administration.
Members of the larger parties likely to form the new administration are in agreement regarding the ‘share the burden’ issue, the need to draft chareidim into the IDF of national service, which would result in pulling thousands if not tens of thousands of Bnei Torah out of yeshivos.
Cohen stated Shas will not be part of any such process and Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef Shlita is not about to sit back and watch such an occurrence take place chas v’sholom.

So is Shas advocating civil disobedience? They participated in a national electoral process and should commit themselves to abide by the outcomes of whatever government is formed. If they can convince the other coalition members to forego insistence on “sharing the burden” than so be it. However, if their position is rejected, than Rav Yosef should not advocate his followers breaking the law
