Tri-state residents braced for a third straight day of single-digit temperatures and biting winds Thursday as meteorologists warned the dangerously frigid weather could be around at least through the weekend.
The coldest weather was expected Wednesday and Thursday, with temperatures beginning in the teens and creeping up to the mid 20s during the day. Subzero wind chills made the already freezing temperatures feel even colder, as residents awoke Thursday to real-feel temperatures of 2 degrees below zero and others north and west of the city had it even colder, with the wind chill making it feel like below 15 degrees outside.
These cold temperatures can be dangerous, so tri-state residents are advised to heed certain cold weather tips, including wearing mittens, which keep extremities warmer than gloves, covering one’s mouth to protect the lungs from the bitter cold air, layering loose-fitting, warm clothing and wearing a hat, because 40 percent of heat is lost through the head.
Forecasters say a quick moving storm late Friday afternoon and evening could bring from 1 to 3 inches of snow over the region, though most of the accumulation is expected in southern New Jersey. New York City may see only a dusting, but the mix of snow and cold weather could lead to slick driving conditions.
Conditions are expected to improve slightly over the weekend, with base temperatures breaking into the 30s for the first time all week.

And here in Israel, I get to wear short sleeves. Yay me for being in Israel for the year!!
Mid 20s sounds ok to me, that’s about the same as Tel Aviv now.
And 30s sounds more like Australia….
Oh wait, Americans still use that old, ridiculous Fahrenheit system…
#2, ha ha very funny. BOOOOOO!!! Our system makes so much more sense. 0 equals very cold and 100 equals very hot– the scale that temperatures usually get. Sometimes it goes under 0 a little and sometimes over 100 a little, but Celsius is just like -15 to 40 (not as nice looking)
On Monday, President Obama demanded that something be done about global warming. We had better watch out. This guy seems to have a lot of powers. It isn’t how much he is into upholding the constitution, but he sure has it in for laws of nature.
We are in trouble if 2 & 3 can not even respect, understand and get used to each others way of life in temperature readings (LOL).
Either F or C we are freezing in Brooklyn!.
I live in NY, and just love the biting cold. Kills all germs. Just godda luv’t.
Hey guys, there is no f in Celsius!
