The union president says school bus drivers and matrons will remain on strike until New York City agrees to put a job security clause back into their contract.
The city has indicated that’s not going to happen. It says the courts have barred it from including such provisions because of competitive bidding laws.
Union President Michael Cordiello insisted at a Ridgewood, Queens news conference on Wednesday that the mayor does have the power to resolve the strike.
Cordiello says no negotiations have been scheduled.
He also says he’s not opposed to the city seeking new bids, as long as they include job security.
Nearby, several dozen union members stood in the cold rain in front of the Amboy Bus Company.
They pumped their fists while shouting: “Union! … Power!”
