The following story is being circulated by askanim affiliated with Yahadut Hatorah. YWN-ISRAEL hesitated reporting it, but since it is now widespread, we will report it too, but with the note that it appears no one has confirmed its validity.
A woman entered a Degel Hatorah branch in Yerushalayim with a strange request. “I need to give someone power of attorney to my husband to permit him to vote for me.”
The woman explained that her husband visited with HaGaon HaRav Aaron Leib Shteinman Shlita to find out what the Gadol Hador has to say about the upcoming elections.
“My husband asked the Rosh Yeshiva if he should cancel a ticket to the United States that cost him $1,000 to vote. The Rosh Yeshiva instructed him to do just that, to cancel the ticket and take the loss.”
She explained that since adhering to the Rosh Yeshiva would result in a significant loss, she thought of possibly arranging a power of attorney to have someone else vote and permit him to fly to the USA.

I’m not surprised it’s validity can’t be checked, it doesn’t actually make sense.

Does the concept of absentee ballot exist in israel?
