Winter Storm Targets New York, New Jersey

Wintry weather is on the way, with forecasters predicting snow, sleet and freezing rain across upstate New York.

Dangerous travel conditions are expected Wednesday evening through Thursday evening. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for central and western New York and a storm watch for the eastern region.

Forecasters say snow will start Wednesday afternoon in western New York and accumulate to eight to 16 inches by 1 p.m. Thursday. Blowing snow will likely make travel hazardous.

Three to five inches of snow is expected in the mid-Hudson Valley after precipitation begins late Wednesday night, possibly changing to freezing rain on Thursday.

In central New York and the Mohawk Valley, forecasters say snowfall at times exceeding two inches per hour will make travel difficult Wednesday night.
