According to Water Authority official Dr. Amir Givati, the heavy rain during the last three days has brought over 18 centimeters (7.06 inches) of water to the Kinneret, the nation’s main source of potable water. With meteorologists predicting rain this week, water officials are hopeful that an additional 7 centimeters (2.75 inches) will be added to Lake Kinneret.
If this materialized as expected, weather officials state the December 2012 rainfall will break a 20-year-old record for the month. The level of the Kinneret on Sunday morning 10 Teves 5773 was reported to be -212.02 below sea level.
