State to Present its Case Regarding Hebron’s Beit Ezra

The government on Sunday, 3 Teves 5773 accepted the state’s position, that the residents of Beit Ezra in Hebron would not be removed from the building in the coming four months during which time the state will look into the legalities of using the structure as a public building. This will be the state’s position, which is being presented to the High Court of Justice. The petition to the court was filed by the left-wing Meretz Party.

It is reported that if the building cannot be used as a kindergarten daycare center for the Jewish community, the residents will be ousted by the court.

MK Uri Ariel decried the ongoing process, questioning why Jews are compelled to abandon legal properties, calling on the administration to act appropriately towards ensuring the future of Beit Ezra. Bayit HaYehudi hopeful Orit Struk, a veteran Hebron resident, questions why the government permits the radical left-wing to control policy decisions pertaining to a legal property acquisition in Hebron.

Peace Now officials’ call the move to delay ousting the residents for four months another government concession to “settlers”.
