PM Intervenes to Halt Planned Dairy Price Hike

One benefit of the upcoming general elections was seen on Monday, when Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu halted a planned 5% increase of state governed dairy items, including milk.

It is reported that the prime minister telephoned Finance Minister Dr. Yuval Steinitz, instructing him to cancel the planned price hike that would have added 20-25 agorot to the price of a liter of milk sold in a bag. The price hike was already announced on Israel Radio as a fait accompli.

The government controlled dairy items represent 7.5-15% of total dairy sales, explains Rami Levy, who heads the nationwide supermarket chain bearing his name.
