Rabbonim last week meet to discuss the situation vis-à-vis talmidim and the IDF’s ongoing efforts to draft them into the military. The rabbonim met in the Shaare Chessed, Yerushalayim home of HaGaon HaRav Shmuel Auerbach Shlita to review the situation following a meeting last week between Defense Ministry officials and MK Moshe Gafne and Deputy Minister Yaakov Litzman.

At the start of the meeting Rosh Yeshivas Knesses Yitzchak HaRav Eisenberg addressed the forum, explaining the military’s attitude towards talmidim who recently reported to an induction center after being instructed to do so. Rosh Yeshivat Kol Yaakov HaRav Addis added that he heard from one of the MKs that at present, there is no change in the situation despite last week’s meeting.

The meeting convened without any decision to change the position of the rabbonim present, who continue to instruct talmidim not to report to any induction center.

It appears that gedolim in Bnei Brak remain of the opinion that talmidim may report to induction centers but they are not to sign any forms whatsoever.
