U.S. House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner on Friday said Republicans and President Barack Obama are locked in a stalemate, a month before a $600 billion “fiscal cliff” of tax hikes and spending cuts is set to kick in.
“There is a stalemate; let’s not kid ourselves,” said Boehner, speaking to reporters a day after Obama made a budget offer that Republicans called unacceptable.
Obama and Republicans are holding firm in their respective positions, with the biggest sticking point being whether to extend low tax rates on household income above $250,000. Boehner said Republicans still oppose raising tax rates on any income group.

In many ways, sharply cutting the budget and raising taxes isn’t such a bad idea. While according to Keynesian theory it should cause a recession, arguably having the government becoming fiscally responsible could lead to a stronger dollar and an economic recovery. Cutting defense spending is a problem, but then again, the Israelis really can take care of themselves (they do seem to be able to make better weapons system, at lower cost, and with shorter development times).
What’s worse than the cut is the fact that the “geniuses” who control budget will apply it across the board, instead of killing wasteful programs and preserving useful ones. That leads to festering wasteful programs and schedule extensions of useful ones. The net result is more spending and more debt.
It’s not “the White House” that is at fault; it is Obama. Careful study of his history and his political connections shows that he wants to destroy American capitalism and substitute Marxism-Socialism.
Like so many tyrants and would-be tyrants, he has already figured out how he and his cohort will get their privileges while we will be the serfs who will obey his commands.
Do I exaggerate? Look at his record, the wimpiness of the establishment Republicans, and the complicity of the “mass media” in avoiding reporting the elements of our growing fiscal calamity over the past 40-50 years. The House of Representatives ought to pass their own budget, send it to Obama, and tell the public what is really happening behind those closed doors.
