Father Objects to Son Marring Ashkenazi – Police Become Involved

It is no secret that at times, parents are less than pleased if a child wishes to marry “outside of the community”, an Ashkenazi and Sephardi marriage. That being said, in the overwhelming number of cases if the match moves forward the parents find a place to make peace with it, but that was not the case for one chareidi family from Tzfas.

A 66-year-old Tzfas resident was unwilling to accept the fact his son was planning to marry an Ashkenazi girl, to the point he was heard threatening the chosson. “I will kill her” as he shouted in anger.

The father told his son he will not accept the chasanah, threatening not to attend the wedding. The father turned to one of the rabbonim in the city for assistance, and the rav, fearing what may occur, decided to share the father’s threat with police, who arrested him for questioning. He was remanded before a Kiryat Shmona court and ordered held over in custody until Sunday, 19 Cheshvan 5773.

  1. Hopefully, this sicko will be charged and jailed for a long period of time to set an example that is NOT ok to threaten the life of anyone because you are a racist and don’t like the hashkafah of their1 skin color or whatever. This is the 21st century and not the dark ages. The sick part is that the chosen is a yid and may be a wonderful bochur who learns in yeshiva but that is not important to this father who is consumed with hate.

  2. I live in Israel and I know first hand that this is RARE. True many prefer to marry those similar to themselves, but in the thirty five years that I am hear, this is the second time I have heard such drastic reports.

Many many mixed marriages come off successfully with out any major problems. It all depends on the two marriage partners and their personal commitment; not the personal prejudices of the parents.
