Turkey will open an embassy in East Jerusalem, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said, days after leading calls at a summit of Muslim leaders for the world to recognize it as the capital of Palestine.
“Because it is under occupation we can’t just go there and open an embassy,” Erdogan said in a speech to his ruling party in the city of Karaman.”
But, inshallah (God willing) those days are near and… we will officially open our embassy there,” he said, without giving any precise timescale.Turkey currently has a general consulate in Jerusalem. Ankara has full diplomatic ties with Israel, and like all other nations, its embassy is in Tel Aviv.
The Turkish leader has been one of the loudest voices in a global chorus of condemnation over Donald Trump’s announcement – that the US would break with decades of established foreign policy by relocating its embassy from Tel Aviv.
“With their decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel‘s capital, the United States has become a partner in this bloodshed,” Mr Erdogan said.
He said Jews had no right to “appropriate” Jerusalem which was the the “capital of Muslims”.
“Please stop where you are and don’t attempt any Zionist operation,” he said. “If you try, then the price is going to be high.”
It is not clear how Turkey would carry out the embassy move, as Israel controls all of Jerusalem.

The only thing Turkish embassies are good for is to be a venue for Erdogan’s thugs to brutally beat his dissidents on foreign soil, just like he did in DC with no repercussions. I say cut off ties with Turkey. It’s the next Iran.

US and Israel should open embassies in Khurdistan.
I belive the US should in turn, not recognize any EU capitals. Let’s move our German embassy to Bonn, our French embassy to Vichy, our Spanish embassy to Catalonia, our Turkish embassy to Armenia, our Russian embassy to Stalin – er – Volgograd, etc. Let’s see how they like it.
