After more than 60 years, the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel today will be officially renamed the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel after the former governor who died last year at the age of 92. One tube will be closed between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for the dedication ceremony.
One lane in each direction will be open in the other tube.
Carey served as governor from 1975 to 1982 and led the rescue effort that brought the city back from the brink of bankruptcy during its fiscal crisis in the 1970s.
