HaPeles Faction’s Show of Strength in Motzei Shabbos Kenos

Organizers were hoping to see a few hundred Yerushalmi avreichim at the motzei shabbos kenos of the Yerushalmi litvish community but they report that 5,000-7,000 avreichim attended the Heichal Malchus Hall event in Bnei Brak, far exceeding their wildest expectations.

The organizers deiced to take advantage of the last days of bein hazmanim towards enlisting supporters of the new newspaper http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/article.php?p=133199 and that faction of the litvish community in the capital. The large turnout was a clear message to Degel HaTorah leaders ‘not to abandon’ this faction of the tzibur at large. “Don’t abandon us for we wish to continue in the tradition of Maran Rav Shach zt”l, the party’s founder” was their message.

Rav Dovid Zicherman addressed the tzibur and called for achdus, stressing the need to join forces under the leadership of HaRosh Yeshiva HaGaon HaRav Aaron Yehuda Leib Shteinman Shlita and other gedolei yisrael shlita.

“We are not speaking out against anyone, simply trying to explain there is a mesores (tradition) and a hashkafa and we remain true to these values. Degel HaTorah was founded to fight to protect these values against those who threaten the camp from outside as well as from within”.

A video was aired showing the plea of HaRav Shmuel Aryeh Levin from Argentina who spoke of the need to protect the educational system and ensure a continuance of the hashkafa that has guided the tzibur in the past.

The last speaker addressing the kenos was Menachem Carmel, http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/article.php?p=137977 who stated “In the past we said that through the merit of Yated Ne’eman Degel HaTorah was strengthened and today we say that in the merit of HaPeles this is true.” Carmel expressed his astonishment over the unexpected turnout, the overwhelming showing of support.

By all accounts the large turnout was a clear message to the followers of Maran Rav Shteinman and the current leaders of Degel HaTorah organizers explained.

  1. That is amazing that so many people did turn out. I know that where I live in Jerusalem, Peles sells very few newspapers. Most Litvaks still read Yeted.

I wonder if all the people who came were supporters of Peles or perhaps many just came out of curiosity?

  2. The whole idea of questioning the current Gedolim based on Gedolim who are no longer with us is a dangerouse one. Realities change from generation to generation, and Hashem might want a soften, more flexible uproach for a new generation, and we must follow the Gadol of TODAY, not of 10 years ago.

  3. When was the Zman. If it’s so Poshut that HKB”H keeps Shabbos and does His daily activities, based on the Time-Zone of Eretz Yisroel. And the Malochim use the Time-Zone of E”Y to say Shira only during the night. Where do we have a M’Kor in Chazal, anywhere in Shaas, that we in Europe or USA, have a right not to keep Shabbos and fast Yom Kippur based on the Time-Zone of Eretz Yisroel. Its a D’oiraisoh.

  4. Would someone please tell me what this faction stands for and why there is a need for factionalism in the Litvish world. Who is Hapeles? Who are it’s leaders?

  5. #2, #4, Who told you that HKBH and the mal’ochim follow the time zone of Eretz Yisroel?! This is not written anywhere, and it is not true. And #4’s claim about “many tzadikim” is nonsense on stilts. I challenge him to name one such “tzadik”.

See Shulchon Oruch Horav, 2nd edition, 1:8. “Midnight is a time of goodwill Above at all seasons and in every place. Although the days and nights vary with latitute and longitude, this doesn’t matter, just as the times of kriyas shma and prayer and the beginnings of shabbos and yomtov are in each place according to its own time. For times of goodwill Above, and the supreme unifications of kriyas shma and prayer, and the holiness of shabbos and yomtov, are higher than the concept of place and time, but they shine down to each place in its appropriate time. And this is also why a supreme holiness rests in chutz lo’oretz on the second day of yomtov.”

  6. Oops, I meant #3 and #5. “Yira” and “ader”.

Also, what on earth has this topic got to do with the article? What prompted “Yira” to bring it up? I don’t see anything in the article about the times of Shabbos.

  7. To Milhouse

The Chidoh writes that HKB”H uses the Time-Zone of E”Y, even for the week Maasei Breishus.

I’m looking for a M’kor in Shass or Medrash, for which Time-Zone we should use, not the Pshetel that you wrote.

For Moi’adim we do use the seasons of E”Y.
