The thunder and lightning began about a half hour earlier but by about 20:30 the rain was falling over the skies of Yerushalayim. The rain, which did not last for too long, did become heavy for a period of time, compelling families to abandon their Sukkos, some sustaining damage from the downpour while others ran to place covers in place.
It was a difficult feeling for many as HKBH ousted us from the sukka on the first night of the yomtov, as we see in the Mishnah in Meseches Taanis, that it is not a good sign.
According to weather reports on Tuesday morning the first day of chol hamoed, there is a 10% chance of rain in the capital predicted for Wednesday, sunny skies for Thursday, a 30% chance of rain for Friday, and sunny skies for shabbos.

Are you guys nuts? I live in jerusalem. We had a short period of gusty winds and a few drops of rain. Where did you get your report from??
The rain was not really that heavy at all, was more of a drizzle. Maybe someone knows how to look up historical weather so they can show the it was really not that much. Title of the post should NOT be HEAVY Rain.
I don’t remember exactly how long it went for maybe an hour and a half or so. Then it stopped totally, and we slept the rest of the night in the Sukkah.
The weather was great!
The VERY LIGHT rain cooled it off nice!
Hold tight yidden and daven hard, we may be headed for a rough year, with an all out world war 3 very soon about to break out. Mark my word. Start doing teshuva quickly before its too late. The sifornoh says that most of the world will be destroyed. Pretty scary stuff.
mamash a bracha for eretz yisroel that can always use rain at all times &
at the same time a test for all yidden there to see how much mesiras nefesh they will go for Hashem to eat in the sukka.
THE REWARD OF PASSING ANY OF HASHEMS TESTS IS unimaginable & priceless
Mishnah is in Succah……I think last one in 2nd Perek.
We were able to finish our meal, enjoy some lightning and thunder, and make two brochos. Being a sporadic sleeper, I woke at 1AM and saw the floor and schach dry, so I was able to spend most the night in the succak BH. This is in the hills where it is famously windy.
In what part of Yerushalayim was the rain heavy enough to cause people to abandon their sukkahs? Not where I was.
