WATCH: Chareidi Man Accused Of Not Paying For Jerusalem Light Rail Ride Becomes Victim Of Police Brutality

(VIDEOS IN EXTENDED ARTICLE)

The attached videos were taken on Monday night, the eve of 25 Cheshvan. We see police using what appears to be unnecessary and brutal force against a passenger on the Jerusalem light rail, in this case, a Chareidi man who allegedly rode without paying the fare.

One eyewitness reported that the chossid was running wild on the train earlier after it was discovered he had not paid for the trip and asked for identifying details. After refusing to identify himself again when asked to do so by police, he continued to run wild and attacked the police officers, compelling them to use force to restrain him.

However most persons present did not agree with this version. They explain that while they were uncertain If he had paid, there was no justification for the brutality seen in the video, all while his children looked on in horror – pleading to police not to harm their father.

The suspect’s ex-wife arrived on the scene after her hysterical children phoned, explaining what was taking place. She explained he suffers from schizophrenia, but her words fell on deaf ears. Her children, ages 5-7, looked on while pleading to release their father and not to hurt him as he shouted, “let me go – let me go, you’re hurting me”.

As the videos have gone viral, it is likely that a police investigation of the actions of police and border police will be ordered.

The official Israel Police response was obtained on Tuesday afternoon:

“This is a partial documentation that shows only the end of an incident, during which a suspect who refused to pay for a light rail ride was arrested and refused to be identified by law, while shouting and pushing the policemen and inspectors.

“The incident began when inspectors of the Jerusalem light rail asked for help from a police officer in identifying a citizen who refused to pay for his train ride.

“The policeman asked the citizen to identify himself again and again. When he refused, the policeman who asked to calm him was ignored. He shouted and pushed the policeman and the inspectors. When the train stopped at the station and after the suspect continued to run wild and refused to detain him, the suspect was arrested by the policemen who were there and helped to take control of him.

“Even if partial documentation of the arrest of a suspect, accompanied by screaming in the background, it is not pleasant to watch. In this case, the suspect’s conduct throughout the entire incident was improper and criminal, and led to his lawful arrest”.

  1. Why don’t they use stun guns or other types of immobilizing devices against these crazies rather than risk their own safety and those of other riders. When an individual like this resists arrest, than its important to use overwhelming force to quickly neutralize him/her before things get out of control.

  2. it seems obvious that the man was NOT co-operative with the group of police etc that were at the scene and that they had to use force.

If it is true that the man has a mental problem, then the kids probably are aware of erratic behavior; although it is very sad to see, why couldn’t the wife just pay for him?

  3. After the medina took away 300 dollars of meat I brought from ny for succos there’s no way I’m ever paying for a bus or train ride till I calculate what I should get paid back what I owe

  4. as trump would say – fake news. read the end of your story. it is sad that he suffers from mental issues; in which case his family should take more care.

  5. This man is clearly a psychiatrically challenged individual. He should have been taken to Kfar Shaul Psychiatric Hospital for treatment.

  6. Did you use Google Translate for this article? Fire your editors.
Also, shame on all people encouranging police to use overwhelming force against a schizophrenic Jew. Don’t you have any scrap of Ahavas Israel?

  7. Hey annoyed
I’m not sure of your comment being relavent to this article, but if you smuggle meat into the country why are you upset that it was confiscated?

  8. The man didn’t pay. If they let him pass many others will take advantage. I don’t see what the police are doing wrong, they are simply removing a passenger who didn’t pay. It’s the other passengers and kids who are making being ridiculous with their shouting.

  9. If he suffers from mental illness and is prone to violent outbursts, why does the family allow him to travel without some escort??

  10. YWN – I understand that sensationalist headlines grab attention but it is just plain irresponsible of YWN to cry ‘police brutality’ just because the person being detained is charedi.

Gadolhadorah- because tasers are far more dangerous to the perp and (in a case like this) potentially to innocent bystanders as well.

doom777 – What ‘overwhelming force’ are you referring to?

ChaimTovim – you are motzi shem ra, plain and simple. Don’t wait until Yom Kippur to do tshuvah.
