The firebomb attack against a French kosher supermarket occurred just hours after a French weekly satirical publication printed a cartoon that is offensive to Islam.

According to an eyewitness report, at about noon on Wednesday, 3 Tishrei 5773, two anonymous men entered the supermarket and threw “an object” which is being described as a homemade grenade. They also threw a block at a display window, which led to injuries, apparently from glass shards.

The store is located close to a shul and it is in the center of the Marseilles Jewish community. Local officials, including the mayor, expressed outrage and condemned the attack, standing firmly alongside the local Jewish community.
