Israeli Court Nixes Arab MK’s Request to Ban YouTube Video

Jerusalem District Court Judge Miriam Mizrachi on Thursday, declined to honor a request from MK Talab el-Sana, who was seeking to have the court compel Google to block access to the controversial video “Innocence of Muslims” on its YouTube channel, as it has done in a number of Arab countries. Joining el-Sana in filing his petition were the mayors of a number of Arab municipalities and religious leaders.

Attorneys for Google, which owns YouTube, explained the company is not responsible for content that is published on the YouTube video sharing site, third party content. It was further explained the company is not responsible for searches conducted by those using Google.

The court denied the request for the temporary injunction to ban the content in Israel for the time being, setting a hearing date for October 15, 2012. Google must respond to the petition by October 9th.

After the hearing, el-Sana told the media the court was wrong and he fears that as a result, there will be violence for the court failed to take the minimum step to prevent this from occurring. He basically signaled the Islamic community to begin a violent response to the court’s inaction.

  1. ” He ( MK Talab el-Sana)basically signaled the Islamic community to begin a violent response to the court’s inaction.”

Why is he not prosecuted for Incitement? That is not legal in EY!!!

  2. It would be nice if the court rules out of a love of freedom of speech, but given the usual state of Israeli law, the fact that the video was anti-religious probably was a major factor.

  3. Is this MK smoking something illegal? Did he object to remove the Jewish hate message on YouTube. It’s a “shanda” that he is even in the Knesset!!

  4. I’m guessing that this MK knew it was going to be denied. He just brought it up so it could be denied, and then use it as an excuse for violence.
