MK R’ Eichler: We Must Ask Forgiveness from Many Newborns

MK (Yahadut HaTorah) Rav Yisrael Eichler feels “We must ask forgiveness from the babies born in storage rooms and attics, from those born in rented apartments in abandoned areas due to the impermeability of welfare officials, whose policies reflect those of Sodom”.

Eichler is quoted by the Shas-affiliated Yom L’Yom saying “we did our best but we failed against the wicked government clerks of the agencies of the secular government.”

Eichler continues, pointing out the failures of elected chareidi officials, who did not obtain equal funding for chareidi mosdos, failed to obtain equal recognition for chareidi schools, and simply failed the chareidi electorate.

“The cabinet must ask forgiveness from the Creator of the World and his children, who were treated cruelly. The founders of the nation felt we could be a merciful people tied to Yiddishkheit without teaching אמונה and fulfillment of תורה ומצוות. The State of Israel was not a state committed to a Torah way of life but it was a nation committed to socialist principles that were taken from the Torah, the very Torah it has abandoned.”

“It has been 20 years that the secular state has abandoned the housing needs of its citizens, daily bread for the children, and employment for the elderly and immigrants. Even during the immigrant camps (מעברות) jobs were created but today, the people fall prey to the marketplace. One who is unconnected cannot hope to find a civil service position and those lacking connections to the big money will not land the big jobs. The private marketplace has been shattered and nothing remains other than the victims of the ‘system of law’ that dominates.”

Eichler goes on to condemn the government’s so-called ‘free marketplace’, insisting it is neither, leaving the people out in the cold, depriving them of employment opportunities while the elite and connected are taken care of at the expense of the remainder of the country.

  1. Perhaps there is another reason, each & every political party in Israel is self-absorbed and fulfilling self-interests, rather then pooling its energies to help the overwhelming poor, orphans & widows, handicap and ill.

  2. Why not offer tips on exactly what he’d implement to make improvements, while not negatively affecting the finacial stability of the country.

  3. The sad truth is that in order to get a position in Israel, especially government, a BA or a BS from an accredited institution of higher learning is necessary. The charedi Israeli tzibur does not allow its members to obtain an accredited degree, and therefore they can only obtain low paying jobs. Plenty of Charedi Israelis have quietly obtained degrees discreetly and ARE working in better jobs for decent pay. ALSO: It is forbidden to call Jews wicked, and if this man really said these things publicly, he is NOT being helpful in creating a good relationship between the charedi and non charedi parties.

  4. Well THAT’s rich…a Charedi MK claiming that they don’t get ENOUGH welfare? Chutzpah! Then again, Eichler has proven time and again that he’s pretty whacko.

  5. The goyim have a solution for this problem: abortion.

What’s wrong with a rented apartment? Or an illegal basement?

If the government “recognized” hareidi schools, it would mean regulation of them by the government. If a Jew wants his kids to learn in a government recognized schoool, there are plenty of options.

Frum Jews are poor by choice. Trash the yarmulke, get rid of most of the clothes, eat treff and work on Shabbos – and you are instant middle class. The poverty of frum Jews is a Kiddush ha-Shem. We are offered affluence, but instead choose Torah and Mitsvos.

  6. One needs to ask , what was the reason for the state, and has it been successful.

With more jews being killed in Israel than the rest of the whold combined, and with more than 25% of children living below the poverty line

You tell me , has it been a success?????

  7. Problem is Israel is the same as America they want the government to do everything. The government has cause the housing shortage but constantly blocking new housing and charging so much and so much pay off to get things down. Also some of the companies are charging for food way too much

  8. Actually.
The Government in Israel and America approach Yeshivos very differently.
The USA had come to realize that when someone sits and studies Talmudical studies all day for years they should recieve a portion of collegge credits since they are engaged in academics. As such when the time comes in America Yeshivaleit can finish “degrees’ quite easily by using the yeshiva credits towards their degrees.
The secularists in Israel claim they want the chareidim to work but refuse to recognize their kollel learning and as such make it impossible for them to get a degree unless they give up Kollel.
