HaRav Yitzchok Dovid Grossman, chief rabbi of Migdal Ha’emek is teaming up with former Israeli pop music star Yoram Gaon and others to ensure the character of the content on Israel’s new TV channel.
With the closure of the dedicated Heritage TV Channel, Moti Sklar, a former CEO of IBA (Israel Broadcasting Authority) has won the tender, permitting him to set up a channel that will offer a wide range of content, including Jewish heritage, traditions and more.
Israeli society in recent years reveals a deep interest in the roots of the Jewish people. Sixty years after the creation of Israel, the Israelis turn their gaze back and artifacts to discover where their ancestors came earlier founded the Zionist movement.
Recognizing that their people have a tradition and a fascinating history dating back years, moves them to deepen their knowledge of Judaism and Israel heritage. This phenomenon is evident in a variety of areas, original Jewish music, a genre of literature that deals with Jewish themes, different cultural creations, and more.
Leading the trend, in part, known artists and intellectuals are involved towards guaranteeing success. In light of these developments, the Council for Cable and Satellite Broadcasting held an auction a few months ago for a special license designation.
Communications Minister Moshe Kahlon said then that “The Heritage Channel, as well as other specialized channels, is essential to a multi-cultural country like Israel. Activation of the channel will contribute to pluralism in Israeli society, diversify the content on the screen, and give proper expression of Jewish heritage.”
Nitzan Chen, chairman of the Council for Cable and Satellite Broadcasting, said the opening of the station will “Hopefully fill the void and lack programmatically now seen in commercial television and serve as an alternative reality and other programs.
The tender was sealed this week and the decision was made defining those who will oversee the station’s operation and assume responsibility for content. This includes team leader Moti Sklar and members Rabbi Yitzhak Dovid Grossman, singer and author Yoram Gaon, a businessman, a Chabad chossid and Shlomo Kalish.
Behind the group are other groups, including “Orot – Jewish Television”, which combines Jewish content currently on YNET. The investor group is Yitzchak Mirilashvili, the son of a Jewish businessman from Georgia, Michael Mirilashvili, who is engaged in philanthropy.
