Monticello police have arrested two Monticello men this past Sunday following an incident in the parking lot of a seasonal bakery at the Fialkoff’s Bungalow Colony on Waverly Avenue in the village of Monticello. Arrested were the following persons;
Esai Diaz (21) charged with felony reckless endangerment and misdemeanor aggravated unlicensed operation in the 2nd degree.
Brandon Morales (20) charged with felony-aggravated harassment in the 2nd degree and violation harassment in the 2nd degree.
According to the Monticello PD, around 9:35 pm Sunday, Monticello police responded to a report that a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder being operated by Diaz had attempted to hit persons standing in the parking lot of the bakery. Witnesses also reported that Diaz and Morales who was a front seat passenger in Diaz’s vehicle had yelled profanity and ethnic slurs at persons who were Chasisidc. Morales and Diaz then returned a second time a few minutes later in the vehicle. Morales then exited the vehicle and punched a male in the arm. Diaz and Morales then attempted to drive away but their vehicle would not start. Diaz and Morales then fled on foot but were located a short time later by officers and arrested. A check of Diaz driver license showed it was suspended with 8 active suspensions. Both defendants were arraigned in the village of Monticello justice court before Village of Monticello justice Josephine Finn and then each remanded to the Sullivan county jail on $2,500.00 bail pending further court action.
