Record-Breaking Gasoline Prices in Israel on Motzei Shabbos


The price of a liter of 95 octane gasoline will reach a new high on motzei shabbos, an increase of 55 agorot a liter to 8.55 NIS.

Using the Bank of Israel rate at the end of business day on Thursday, 12 Elul 5772 of 4.04 NIS /$1, the new gas price is the equivalent of $8.46/ US gallon.

In addition, value added tax increases from 16% to 17%.

  1. Hopefully, the higher prices will result in lower demand and reduce the amount of oil EY must import from foreign sources. Spending less money on imported oil will help the nation’s growing imbalance in foreign trade. Less driving will also reduce air pollution emissions and noise in already congested areas of Yerushalayim and TA.
