Friedman: One Cannot Petition High Court Against Iranian Assault

Former Justice Minister Daniel Friedman feels one cannot petition the High Court of Justice towards preventing an Israeli assault against Iran.

In a conference addressing the High Court Circumventing Bills, Friedman explained that with the current trend the court will be involved in everything. Such a reality is not in our favor he explained as there must be a separation between branches of government.

Friedman added that in line with the philosophy of former Chief Justice Aaron Barak, such a petition, regarding an attack against Iran is acceptable but he does not agree, explaining the High Court cannot decide regarding an attack against Iran.

Friedman adds that personally speaking, he opposes an Israeli assault without US cooperation, adding “But I do not think it is the court’s place to assist towards this goal”.

Also addressing the bar conference was Arab MK Dr. Ahmed Tibi, who called for another Arab to be appointed to the High Court. Tibi explained “one Arab judge does not represent democracy or equality”.
