Shas leader Deputy Prime Minister Eli Yishai this year decided to lead by example, sending his son to a Sephardi cheider instead of the cheider in his Har Nof neighborhood as he did in previous years. In the past, the minister sent his children to an Ashkenazi cheider in the community but he now opted to send the child further from home to have him counted among the chareidim whose children attend a Sephardi school.
In the past, Yishai explained that they were being sent close to home and the reason they were in a Har Nof school was not because of it being Ashkenazi, but simply more convenient.
Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef Shlita continues to call on Sephardim to send their children to Sephardi yeshivot to enable to learn the appropriate minhagim and piskei Halacha. The gadol hador also places an emphasis on the need for Sephardi boys to learn proper טעמי המקרא, which he feels they will not receive in a Chinuch Atzmai School.

The local Talmud Torah refused to accept his son as they have refused to accept many other local Sephardi boys.
Statement #1 is unfounded and should not be believed. We’re not in the business of spreading baseless hate.
you can be sure that they accepted his son. My son learns in a Ashkenazi cheder (yiddish speaking) and sephardim are accepted. What chadarim do not accept are rough kids. Nuff said…
