100 new bus stops have been erected to serve express bus stops in Yerushalayim as stage one of a master plan to improve public transportation. The daily HaMevaser quotes City Councilman Rav Shlomo Rosenstein as explaining the new larger bus stops are essential to serve commuters by adding stops and removing old outdated smaller bus stops.
The two-stage program carries a 100 million NIS price tag, and funding comes from Jerusalem City Hall and the national government.
Rosenstein reports that in stage one of the plan, the 70,000 NIS bus stops were placed along routes traveling from Gilo via Derech Hebron, King George, Shmuel HaNavi and Golda Blvd. He adds the new stops are designed to fit on narrow sidewalks as well as wider ones, providing maximum shelter to a larger number of riders than was possible in the past.

I wait at these bus stops every day. They look very nice. But, the entire back wall is made of glass – so if the sun is shining from behind (early morning or late afternoon, depending where) you can still roast underneath a beautiful shelter with GLASS walls. The old ones with the solid metal back were much better……
