A physician at Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Hospital has been diagnosed with tuberculosis. The diagnosis was made as a result of a routine physical exam of the doctor who has been treating illegal aliens from African countries.

Health Ministry officials have been notified and the doctor is receiving rigorous treatment towards preventing the illness from becoming active along with 10 members of the hospital staff, all diagnosed with the illness. Health officials’ stress there is no risk of contracting the illness by patients treated by the infected healthcare professionals. Channel 2 reports the physician is a mother of small children.

Prof. Yehuda Carmeli, who heads the hospital’s infectious diseases department, explains that anyone who was remotely in contact with the infected employees was checked.
