9:40AM IL: University Medical Center spokeswoman Danita Cohen said the Las Vegas hospital is taking in “several” people with gunshot wounds. She didn’t have any more immediate information.
9:32AM IL: Witnesses report there are over 100 emergency vehicles that have responded. All of the witnesses report hearing “many shots” around the Mandalay Bay Casino and that SWAT arrived and assisted them to get to safety.
The concert seen in the videos appears to be across the street from the Mandalay Bay on Route 91 and it has been shut down.

9:15AM IL: There has been what is being described as a “mass shooting” in Las Vegas including reports of police officers down in the area of the Mandalay Bay casino on Las Vegas Blvd.
According to a Tweet from the Los Vegas Police, the scene is still an active one. Las Vegas KABC News is reporting hospitals report multiple gunshot victims are being treated.

Persons report hearing automatic gunfire ring out at about 10:15PM Sunday night. Police believe there are multiple shooters involved.

9:22AM IL: Fox News is reporting the gunfire is coming from a higher floor of the hotel. There are unconfirmed reports the gunfire originated on the 32nd floor.

Dear Mods: if you check the timestamps on the various items pertaining to this shooting, you’ll realize that I posted before the extent of the killings was revealed and publicized on this website. Of course it’s a tragedy if even 1 person is injured or killed, all the more so this number of people. My initial gut feeling when looking at the headline was “nu, in the “vice capital” of the U.S. another vice occurred. It’s a altogether a makom tuma. It’s not like it happened cv”s in some yeshiva or shtibel . Vegas is a place where all sorts of aveiros happen all the time So, I questioned the publicizing of this incident on a frum website. I mean, you don’t report every stabbing, robbery, break-in, carjacking that occur daily all over Harlem, Bed-Sty, etc. You do report stuff that occurs r”l in the frum neighborhoods. There is all kinds of news items that appear in the NY Times that are not appropriate for this website. All the more so the chazerai and shmutz that is reported in rags such as the Daily News or the Post. You surely don’t entertain the thought of reporting some of those “items” on YWN. And indeed, you do not and have not. My feeling was that a shooting in Vegas belongs to that category that we, as frum Jews, can live without knowing about. That’s all.
I’d love to know how you ascertain that “(some/many?) people rely on YWN as their primary news source and do not visit any other websites. That is pretty farfetched. (They don’t listen to the news while stuck in traffic on the BQE or elsewhere?) Honestly, it’s not really possible to know, even if you have conducted a survey on this. Most such polls are notoriously unreliable.
And even if it’s true, this fact would not be license to post the horrifying filth that passes for “news” in the Daily News or the Post — just because this is their primary news source. Of course, as a frum website you are doing a certain amount of censoring. There’s no question that this is what your readers want too. I just felt that another vice committed in the city of vices — well, we could skip that one.
As mods, you are, of course, entitled to disagree. Doesn’t have to be “sickening.”
