Tornado Touches Down On Long Island


A tornado touched down on Long Island Friday afternoon, as a system of fast-moving, powerful storms lashed parts of the tri-state area.

A tornado was confirmed near in Suffolk County from Great River north to Ronkonkoma, the National Weather Service reported. It touched down about 2 p.m. bringing 85-mile-per-hour winds that knocked down trees, damaged homes and caused power outages in the area of Bohemia and Oakdale.

A tornado warning was issued for Suffolk County early in the afternoon and it expired at 2:15 p.m. A tornado watch was issued until 9 p.m for Middlesex, New Haven and New London Counties in Connecticut.
