Tri-State: Strong Thunderstorms Threaten Area

Forecasters are predicting more showers and intense thunderstorms across the tri-state area as tropical-like air hangs over the state.

Storms packing powerful winds and heavy rain swept across parts of New Jersey on Thursday, lingering stubbornly over central and northern parts of the state. The wet trend is expected to continue Friday, extending into New York City where isolated thunderstorms are expected to strike throughout most of the morning before a stronger, potentially severe storm hits the area.

Damaging winds and blinding downpours carrying more than an inch of rain are possible with the later storm, forecasters say. Officials caution residents to be aware of flash flooding in low-lying and poor draining areas.
