Petition Calls on Mayor Bloomberg to Apologize to Reporter

The following is via the Politicker:

Earlier this week, a reporter for WPIX asked Mayor Mike Bloomberg about a report that the city was selling spent shell casings to a gun store in Georgia that recycles them for ammo.

The mayor tried to explain that the city sells its scrap metal to the highest bidder, but when Mary Murphy tried to press him, the mayor shot her back down:

“Either you want to ask a question and I give you an answer, or please come to the next press conference and stand in the back,” Mr. Bloomberg said. “I’m happy to answer your question, thank you very much. But I’ve given you the courtesy and I expect the same courtesy. Thank you very much.”

The folks at WPIX turned this into a story more about the persistent Ms. Murphy trying to get answers to her question than about Mr. Bloomberg’s actual answer (that the city has to sell to the highest bidder to get the best return on its investment and to avoid corruption, and that the gun dealer probably just bought the casings to embarrass him, which struck us as fairly reasonable).

Now, someone who goes by the name “The News Diva,” has started an online petition at the website Change. org that calls on Mayor Bloomberg to apologize to Ms. Murphy.

  1. I think the Bloomberg should resign as mayor of the greatest city in the world.
He is an absolute problem for New York and an embarrassment to its entire Jewish community.

  2. Mr. Bloomberg i have a question. I assume you are such a militant anti gun guy for one reason, to save lives, all you are trying to do is get some common sense gun laws passed so innocent lives can be saved. If thats your true motivation why dont you look at statistics and choose the device which claims the most innocent lives per year and go after that? would that be logical? I think you should drop the gun cause because the amount of innocent lives lost by guns is negatable compared to swimming pool deaths, Mr Bloomberg do you know how many 100’s if not 1000’s of people die in back yard swimming pools each year? most of them being children? i think mr mayor we need common sense pool laws. maybe such as no pool can be more than 4 feet deep, i mean why do you need an 8ft swimming pool that ludicrous mr mayor! who needs such deep water its just asking for trouble. Maybe mandate a Government permit to have a pool where you must take a government issued safety class every year to re-qualify.Maybe a law were letting people use your pool when you are away should be a felony because the people using your pool are not well versed in all the safety requirements illegal transfer of a swimming pool. Another good one would be every pool owner needs to keep a log of who swims for how long they swim and who the government certified lifeguard on duty was. Mr. Mayor these are just a few easy common sense pool laws which can be instituted right now for the sake of our children. its time mr mayor you abandon your lost cause of gun control and go after the real Menes to society. unless Mr. Mayor your real agenda is not saving lives but i digress

  3. Don’t you think it’s both degrating and silly to post thee stock pictures that accompany your news stories? Do you not have respectable pictures that you can use?
