In fact, last Thursday, a number of askanim updated the rebbe, telling him there was no progress and no solution on the horizon.
The Rebbe Shlita decided on the protest, feeling this is the only vehicle that remains at his disposal.
Kikar Shabbos News reports the chareidi MKs were in touch with the rebbe on erev Shabbos, calling upon him to cancel the protest but he declined.
