A number of homes were burglarized this past shabbos, homes in the chareidi area of Rechovot the daily HaMevaser reports. Money and valuables were stolen from the homes.
Police were summoned on motzei shabbos and detectives began trying to gather evidence, including fingerprints from the homes. Residents of the Krechnif area of the city told police they recall seeing slips of paper between the door and threshold, which they now realize was a sign for burglars, signaling which homes are vacant, signaling the residents traveled for shabbos.
Police call on residents to be more aware, especially if they see paper, toothpicks, matches or any item placed between a door and threshold. Such items should be removed immediately. If and when possible, it is also advised to inform police or local patrols if one is traveling for shabbos or any time, requesting they pay extra attention to the vacant home.
