Getting into the city through the Lincoln Tunnel is about to get much tougher for late night and early morning drivers. Starting Monday, a major rehabilitation project will shut down the inbound approach to the Lincoln during overnight hours.
The Port Authority’s so-called “Helix Fix” will close the lanes weekdays from 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Closures will also be in effect Saturdays from 12:01 a.m. to 8 a.m., and Sundays from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m.
The work will provide a smoother driving surface and reduce future delays for periodic maintenance.
Construction is expected to last through late next summer, before work begins on the outbound roads.
Detours are already being set up.
