Egypt: President Morsi Never Sent Peres A Letter

On Tuesday, the President’s Residence released a statement to the media that Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi responded to a letter sent to him by President Shimon Peres following his elected, as was reported by YWN-ISRAEL. A copy of a typed letter was displayed in the media.

Not too long after the reports circulated in the Israeli media, a statement of denial was released from Cairo, insisting President Morsi never sent a letter. In an official statement from the Egyptian president to al-Aram, Morsi stated that the reports he sent a letter to Peres are a fabrication.

Not wasting time, the President’s Residence in Israel released a statement instructing the public not to take the al-Aram report seriously since the denial was to be expected considering the magnitude of the act, the sending of the letter to Mr. Peres by the newly-elected Egyptian leader.

  1. I thought Israel and Egypt had peace with each other.

If the president of Egypt refuses to – and denies that he would – communicate with the president of Israel, I wonder whether my definition of ‘peace’ is incorrect. Maybe I need to go back to school?
