High Court Justice Edna Arbel on Tuesday, announced in September 2012 it will hear a petition seeking to compel the state to induct all 18 year olds into military service now that the Tal Law has expired.

The Movement for Quality Government filed the petition seeking to have the court compel the minister of defense, the IDF, prime minister and the government to enforce the law and draft all eligible citizens equally. The petition simply states there is no longer a law that grants chareidim the right to sit and learn as opposed to serving in the IDF and therefore, the petitioner wishes to have the court compel the top government officials to enforce the law equally.
