Israel: Gas Price Hike at Midnight

Gas prices are increasing in Israel again, at midnight, August 1, 2012. 95 octane at self service pumps will increase from 7.27 NIS a liter to 7.76 NIS, the equivalent of $7.70 per US gallon (based on exchange rate of $1/4.03 NIS. The price at the full service pumps will increase from 7.43 NIS to 7.92 NIS.

Energy Minister Dr. Uzi Landau explains the shekel weakening against the dollar and another increase in the price of gas worldwide compels the increase.

  1. The shekel has been shrinking, which in itself should cause a substantial increase in imports, and virtually all Israeli gas (as in “petrol” – natural gas is another matter but that doesn’t help motorists) is imported.
